I heard Brene Brown, in her audio book for Rising Strong ask the question, “Do you think that people are really doing the best they can?” She’s asking this question in a manner that is global. She’s not saying, “In this moment are people really doing the best they can?” She didn’t qualify it to specify the conditions, timing, or person. She’s wondering, universally, are people really doing the best they can. Since I want to give you the opportunity to really consider what she found in her research—yes she really did research on this and so there really is a research-based answer to the question—I want to pose the question to you without telling you what her research showed.
So, I’m wondering what you think. Do you think that people are really doing the best they can? Why or why not?
